Inputs -- Outputs

Thinking about how project might work requires "Systems Analysis".  An essential part of this analysis is the understanding of inputs and outputs.

If we think about a basketball player as a human example, the player sees the ball ( input ) and moves their body to the appropriate position (output ).  In  human the process takes place in the brain!

Automated robotic systems are not that different.  Temperature control and room heating are a simple example.

An important input-output system is one used on the "hands" of robots.  They rely on sensors that can detect acceleration in 3 dimensions.  A typical sensor is the MPU6050 has a 3-axis gyroscope, 3- axis accelerometer and a motion sensor contained on a single electronic circuit.

Please read this week's Tasks and Activities.

Questions and Activities

  1. What is the typical online cost of a motion sensor like the MPU6050? ( Hint: note the unit price )
  2. Write a complete list of all the possible input devices that could have been used on your project.
  3. Write a complete list of all the possible ways the inputs could have been processed.  See the table below for examples.
  4. And finally write a complete list of all the possible outputs that might have been used on your project.

Present your project input and outputs in a table that might look like this.

Possible Inputs Ways to process the Inputs Possible Outputs
IF Code running on an Arduino ( for example )
Your finger controlling the motor output ( for an example only )
If Code running on a BBC micro:bit ( as an example only )
  How will yours work?

Don't forget to email your choices/answers to Mr. Widmer by the end of this week.  Keep a copy of that email in your Google Docs folder.
