Geogebra - What lengths do we find on the sides of right angle triangles?

In this activity we will investigate the relationship between side lengths of a right angle triangle.

  1. Load this Geogebra file

You should see a triangle.  You are going to make a right angle triangle.

  1.  Now move the blue point P to the Right Angle Point

You should see the a and b lengths change

  1. Use this spreadsheet to record the a, b and hypotenuse values.
  2. Now reshape your right angle triangle.  Make sure that your triangle has a 900 angle.  You must use the right angle point to keep this shape.

Questions
  1. What is the rule for the side of right angle triangles?
  2. What is length of the hypotenuse if the a is length 3 and b is length 4?
  3. Can you use your spreadsheet to check the rule you used in question 1. above?
Activities
  1. Save a copy of your spreadsheet in your "Maths is Amazing" folder.
