Angahook State Park - Currawong Falls Walk

A four hour walk around the hills behind Aireys Inlet reveals Iron bark forests, Casuarina groves and views of the sea.  This forest was burnt out in March, 1983.  After the spring rains, the yellow of the Acacia is followed by the yellow-orange cascade of Peas.  It was fascinating to walk the circuit again, after 18 years.

A tree daisy brightens the start of the track near the Distillery creek picnic ground In the rain shadow of the Otways, the Eucalyptus sideroxylon finds a dry niche The strangely prickly Isopogon hides yellow flowers in spring
Echidnas give away their diggings with pointy holes in ant heaps Granite rocks provide a lookout over the Ironbark gorge the aptly named Playlobium obtusangulum has a distinctive triangular leaf
the large blue flowers of the sun orchid, Thelymitra aristata, were easily noticed on the track A sudden drop in the creek level locates a waterfall in wetter weather The brightly coloured Dwarf Wedge pea provided a contrast to the yellow of the other peas

The pictures were taken in early October, 1999
