Cross Country Skiing

Five hours from Melbourne by road, and you will arrive at the resort village of Falls Creek.  In winter you will ski over the Alpine National Park.  Although the park is littered with ski tows and hydro-electric earthworks, it is still possible to find quiet corners of snowy solitude.

Snow gums withstand the icy blasts of high plain wind only the snow poles would show you the way home on a foggy night
pole lines lead over the snow covered plains ice stalactites form on the branches as the sun thaws the snow diagonal stride and skate kicks mark the track
the lichen covered rocks are the first life to appear as the snow thaws the crusty snow hardens as we approach Mt McKay snow falls around the trunks of the Alpine trees
