Gog, Magog, Avon river and Mt Hedrick

This is a pleasant weekend walk on the edge of the Avon Wilderness north of Heyfield.  Once buried in fast flowing river valleys, these hills now reveal their conglomerate rock origins.  In the evenings the dingos howl in the Avon river valley.  Before you start the walk, take the jeep track to the top of Ben Cruachan for a side trip.

look north into the Avon Wilderness from the top of Ben Cruachan Ben Cruachan is thickly wooded and visited by using a steep jeep track all the hills are formed from congolmerate rock
dingos prowl in the low undergrowth of the Gog forest dense lichen grows on the mist shrouded Gog ridge the gps reader helped establish the path to the correct spur in the mist
only the roar of the motorcycles disturbed the calm of the Avon river looking east from Mt Hedrick and the Avon river seems far away in the evening, the distinctive shape of Ben Cruachan is silhouetted
