Lake Mountain

Thronging with skiers in winter, Lake Mountain is a short drive from Melbourne.  If you walk all the ski trails it could take all day.  This is what you will see in summer.

Look closely before you sit on this tuft of grass, ants have raised their nest to keep out of the wet ground The native Violet, Viola, blooms at the base of the snow gum a "garden" of Prostanthera cuenata with its scented leaves fills the ground beneath the snow gums

On the far northern end of the Lake Mountain range, an abandoned stone hut shows the limit of settlement Richea scoparia is a sharp tough bush that fills the watery bog hollows.  It is a tough all rounder flower_mat.jpg (55817 bytes)
