Brisbane Ranges and Anakie Gorge

Just over an hour from Melbourne, the Brisbane Ranges are now suffering from Cinnamon fungus.  This dieback is slowly reducing the numbers of grass trees, but on the forest floor you will still find a profusion of flowers in spring time.

at the start of Anakie gorge you will find the "Kangaroo Apples" once the grass trees dominated the landscape now they suffer from human interference and road building the spider orchid is so hard to find ... and so hard to photograph
the yellow splash of the Senecio covers the lower Anakie Gorge looking down the Anakie gorge we see the You Yangs in the distance The "mint bush" is often grown in Melbourne gardens but here one species survives on the top of a rocky lookout
the peas are everywhere ..but which one is this? the showy Parrot Pea is a distinctive apricot colour beside the track we find the rare golden Grevillea
