The Caves

Four and a half hours drive from Melbourne and you almost touch the South Australian Border.  On the Western side of the Grampians National Park the Victoria Range holds Aboriginal paintings, rocky ramparts and subtle spring flowers. On this trip we explore caves and arches.

ancient landscapes and ancient people are part of the excitement of this National Park soon after you sight the aboriginal paintings you arrive at the Hollow Mountain.  Did they know about this place? in early spring the Acacia Myrtifolia is one of the brightest .. and softest .. wattles
in the brief period of moistness in a dry landscape, the tiny world of the lichens and mosses flourish Correas grow in the moist parts of the sandstone bluffs.  Their colours range from green to red after a fire these Callitris "pines" appear.  Each plant has been set by seed
early in spring the Hovea linearis asserts its bright mauve colour from the forest floor many parts of the park are hard to reach The view from the red cave is through the roof.  We could not climb into it!
